Thoughts on a Yellow personality. . .

Jake flew out to Arkansas this week (on Wednesday to be exact) for a job in sales. He decided that he wanted to go and make alot of money selling pesticide control for some company. Of course they promised him he would make lots of money over the summer and he developed grandiose dreams of making millions of sales and raking in the bucks (which is fine of course as we all have to have dreams). However, let me get to the point, for those of you who have never heard of the book "The color code", here is a brief synopsis- people are grouped into 4 general categories. Red is the 1st one. It is made up of those of us who have the type A personalities. We are strong willed, stubborn to a fault and "always right". We are also go getters and very good at accomplishing things. That pretty much sums it up. The "Blue" personalities are loyal, dependable, emotional and hold a grudge forever. The "White" personalities are the peacemakers and non confrontational. They are the kind of people who will tell you what you want to hear and then go and do what they want to do anyway. They are passive aggressive. The people who fall into the "Yellow" category are the ones who are all about fun. They are always late, they are the life of the party. They are the ones that always seem to land on their feet when things are rough, for instance, if they had a rich uncle and he died, guess who would inherit their millions? That's right, the yellow personalities. They are also the ones who think life should be easy and fun all the time. They have a hard time buckling down to something. They also have wonderful personalities and everyone likes them. Well I discovered a couple of years ago that my son Jake is a "yellow-white" personality. This discovery was accompanied by and AH-HA moment. It doesn't change anything, but it sure makes it easier for me to understand why he does some of the things he does. That being said, you should understand that I am a red-blue and so having a son who is yellow-white is a definite challenge. Anyway, he takes this job and today I am getting texts about his discouragement and that he might be coming home shortly. Now keep in mind that he has already made 2 sales (in less than a week(which I think is pretty good) but he is not thinking of that. He is thinking about the fact that it has rained non stop since he got there and he is not having fun anymore. Crazy yellow kid! He just doesn't seem to understand that life is not always fun. Hopefully someday he will figure things out, but in the meantime he sure keeps things interesting!
